Tax Committee Unveils ₦10m Award for Journalists, Influencers.
The Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee has launched an Excellence in Tax Reform Reporting Award, offering ₦10 million prize money for the star winner. The committee chairman, Taiwo Oyedele, announced this at a press briefing with journalists on Friday, October 3, in Lagos State.
He said the initiative is to recognise and reward journalists and online influencers who provide balanced, accurate, and impactful reporting on Nigeria’s ongoing tax reforms.
He explained that the award seeks to strengthen constructive public discourse, counter misinformation, and elevate journalism that explains reforms in ways citizens can trust and understand. “The media is central to shaping narratives and building public trust. By equipping and rewarding journalists and influencers, we aim to ensure that the tax reform conversation is constructive, inclusive, and anchored in truth.
This is how we build public confidence in reforms designed to secure our nation’s future,” Oyedele said.According to him, the award is open to all Nigerian journalists across print, broadcast, and online platforms, as well as digital influencers, bloggers, and podcasters.
To enter for the award, the committee said a journalist must have published work between July 1 and December 31, 2025, in English, Pidgin, Hausa, Igbo, or Yoruba, that explains, analyses, or reports on the tax reform. Also, entries in local languages are to be submitted along with the English translations, and videos or podcasts should not exceed 10 minutes, he said.
According to the tax committee, the awards structure is a 1st prize of ₦10 million, a 2nd prize of ₦5 million and a 3rd prize of ₦3 million. There is also a consolation prize of ₦1 million each for the top 20 finalists with plaques.
He hinted that gadgets and training fellowships may also be provided.He said entries submitted will be judged on accuracy and technical correctness, balance and fairness, clarity and accessibility, public engagement and reach, and creativity and innovation.
Awards Gala, a high-profile ceremony either in Lagos or Abuja, will be held to announce the winners. This may be broadcast live on major TV stations with livestreams on YouTube and X Spaces, Oyedele said.
He added that applications will open via the official portal, fiscalreforms.ng, by the end of the year.Pinnacle Daily reports that the tax reforms recently signed into law have been generating a lot of controversy, and the committee has been engaging the public to clarify some misconceptions.
